We are delighted to present for sale this early Land Rover® Lightweight, finished in the Drab Olive colour scheme, which has been very recently rebuilt onto a Galvanised Chassis, along with almost every other desirable feature.
Externally, this has all the hallmarks of a “good” Lightweight – front and rear NATO hitches, front and rear bumperettes, military lifting eyes, matching bonnet mounted spare with camouflage netting, rope for the front bumper, military ‘screw’ lenses and rear fixings for pioneer tools. The vehicle benefits from a brand new canvas, a set of larger door mirrors for better visibility whilst driving, and a set of 750 chevron military tyres. In our opinion, we think this is a fantastic looking lightweight that even a serious enthusiast would enjoy.
On the inside, the interior is largely standard, with three front seats, along with a seat belt bar for 3 point inertia reel belts. There is a middle lap belt so all three front seats are belted. The gun clips are still fitted to the bulkhead behind the seats. It is good to see the heater with front demist survives, along with the wiper motor cover – items which are now becoming hard to procure in such condition. Matting is fitted to the footwells – the rear is unfitted as per the photo with just a load mat to protect the floor from damage, dirt and scratches.
Where this Lightweight really stands out, though, is underneath and out on the road – a galvanised chassis has been fitted recently, and then painted in the uniform black finish, as per factory. This has been complemented with parabolic springs, to afford a better ride. The petrol engine, painted in MOD “Duck Egg Blue” colour scheme is a joy too, and runs sweetly. This gives this Land Rover® Lightweight which feels well sorted behind the wheel – as they are narrower and lighter than their civilian counterparts, they are a hoot to drive, especially with the doors lifted off and the screen put down onto the spare wheel!
In summary, if you are looking for a high-spec Land Rover® Lightweight which has been rebuilt to stand the test of time, then this is well worth considering. It is very uncommon to find one in such condition, and we do not foresee it being in stock for long!
