Here we have for sale an early Series 2 Land Rover®, in running and driving condition.
As one can see from the photos, this vehicle appears to be largely complete and ready to go. This early model features the Lucas glass lenses, and we have done electrical checks so that wipers, lights, horn, indicators etc all work as they should. There is a truck cab canvas fitted and the rear tailgate enjoys tailgate chains so one can lower it/ sit on it if needed. Vintage numberplates, rear mud flaps and wing-mounted mirrors add to the period charm.
The interior has survived in nice condition, with the dash all as it should be – again, even the dash lights on the dials work with the main lights. The original steering wheel also survives, which is lovely to see. There are three deluxe seats to the front and matting to the floors.
We have road tested this vehicle prior to listing, and can confirm that the engine is good and that it drives ok through the gears. It also has decent brakes too, so we are selling this as a running and driving project. Due to Parabolic Springs, it also rides better than standard.
We are selling this Series 2 as a project, for spares or repairs and with no warranty implied or given… let us explain why. This vehicle came into us but closer inspection of the chassis on our ramps showed it to be fairly heavily welded with some further perforations and soft areas. Many would run a vehicle like this but obviously, this is not something that John Brown 4×4 can put our name on. A competent enthusiast could make the necessary improvements to run the vehicle for a few more years on the existing chassis, but ideally, the vehicle would benefit enormously from a new galvanised chassis. Sometimes, we rebuild these vehicles in-house before presenting them for sale but due to the workshop being already over subscribed with other projects, with both electric and traditional drive rebuilds, plus the prep of stock for sale, we have made the rare decision to pass this vehicle on as it is – albeit driving nicely and looking good.
This is an ideal opportunity to purchase a “whole” and driving Series 2 for a moderate price (compared to other vehicles we see online), with the possibility of spending a small amount of money on a re-chassis to create a much more valuable vehicle. It is very uncommon for other vehicles we see in this price bracket and condition to have been road tested and therefore known to loco-mote themselves under their own steam.
All that said, this vehicle has not been passed through our usual inspection schedule of work, in the same manner as a warranted car, so the purchaser must understand that there may be items mentioned not within this advert that arise. We have tried to be as transparent and as honest as we can in this description and if there is any doubt as to condition, we would recommend prior inspection. We are happy to supply the necessary contacts within the trade to any purchaser should they wish to carry out improvement works. Be quick here – we are often asked about projects and they rarely come along, so to find one that is all together and driving is quite unusual.
