2010 Porsche 911 (997.2) GT3 RS - Low Miles For Sale

The Porsche 911 GT3 RS is widely recognised as being one of the greatest drivers’ cars of all time, and this superb ‘997. 2’ example is being offered for sale in the striking combination of Carrera White with black interior and red details. Used sparingly in recent years, it has covered only 12, 185 miles from new.

The car was first registered on 29 July 2010 and delivered to Porsche Centre Belfast on 20 August. It soon returned to England, however, and its first owner was based in Crawley, Sussex.

The GT3 RS’s extensive history begins with a service at Porsche Centre Mid-Sussex on 26 August 2012. It had covered 6388 miles and the brake fluid was changed as part of the work. Independent marque specialist Parr Porsche changed the brake fluid again in July 2014.

The car was serviced by Porsche Centre Tonbridge at 11, 616 miles on 14 June 2016, when the drive belt was replaced and another brake fluid change carried out.

The car has covered less than 1000 miles since then, but nonetheless it was serviced by Porsche Centre Silverstone on 22 October 2020, once again having its brake fluid changed and its drive belt replaced – this time at 12, 015 miles.

Its most recent service was on 23 March 2023 at Porsche Centre Swindon, and the paperwork shows that Service Campaigns WC08 (reprogramming the DME control unit) and WC09 (replacing the clutch pedal switch) were completed on 6 August 2012. Condition Reports have also been carried out at Official Porsche Centres at two years, six years and 10 years.

Presented in immaculate condition, its specification includes the Sport Chrono Plus package, ASK sound system, and telephone and navigation modules for the PCM touchscreen. It is MoT’d until 18 November 2023 and is offered with its original driver’s manual.

On the road – with the red roll cage behind you, the race harnesses holding you in place, and the evocative noise from the flat-six engine – this 911 GT3 RS feels every inch the exhilarating road-racer. Already established as a modern classic, it’s one of the most collectible and coveted 911s of recent years.

MODEL HISTORY
Although it was heavily based on the outgoing 996, the 997-model Porsche 911 featured revised styling and numerous engineering changes when it was launched in 2004. It was offered in Carrera and Carrera S spec, plus the all-wheel-drive Carrera 4 and 4S, the flagship Turbo and the stripped-out GT2 and GT3.

Production of the 997 lasted until the 2011 introduction of the new 991, but along the way there was a 2008 update. Unofficially referred to as ‘997. 2’, the revised model included a more powerful new engine with direct fuel injection, as well as the option of Porsche’s dual-clutch PDF transmission.

The GT3 was intended to be a lightweight, track-orientated variant, and for the even more committed enthusiast there was the GT3 RS, which was produced as a homologation model for international motorsport.

While the first-generation 997 GT3 RS used a 3. 6-litre engine, the ‘997. 2’ variant gained a 3. 8-litre unit that produced 444bhp at 7900rpm. It was available with only the six-speed manual gearbox, and flared front wheelarches were needed to cover the wider front track. Weight-saving measures include a Plexiglas rear screen, a titanium exhaust system and a single-mass flywheel, while the aero package was optimised in order to reduce lift and produce twice as much high-speed downforce as the regular GT3.

The 0-60mph sprint was dispatched in only four seconds and the top speed was 193mph, but the appeal of this generation of 911 GT3 RS lay not in its straight-line performance but in its all-round ability and versatility.

‘It had exquisite balance,’ wrote Andrew Frankel for Autocar, ‘a magical gearbox and, above all, an ability to connect the driver to the road that has yet to be beaten by any descendant.’

Evo went so far as to say that the 997. 2 GT3 RS was ‘the best car [we have] ever tested… Every drive reaffirmed that its gritty feedback, fierce engine, and a chassis that melds connection, fluidity and control with such raw brilliance simply couldn’t be beaten.’

It’s thought that production of the 997. 2 GT3 RS totalled about 1600 cars, with only 139 right-hand-drive UK models leaving the factory. The subsequent 991 introduced a new platform with lengthened wheelbase and electric power steering, and the 997. 2 is now widely regarded as having been a particular ‘sweet spot’ in the long history of the Porsche 911.
