What is it?
Launched in 1969, the Honda Dax wasn’t a racer, it wasn’t a workhorse, it could barely be described as a ‘road bike’ but it was hugely popular simply because it was fun. It was fun to ride, fun to hear and fun to look at. The DAX range remain popular today, so much so Honda re-released the ST50 in 1995, and produced it through to 2000. The DAX is perfect accessory for motorhomes, especially as the seat allows for a pillion passenger should you so desire.

What’s it got?
Finished in factory metallic blue paint and powered by a delightful 50c air cooled four-stroke motor. Transmission is a 3 speed semi-automatic gearbox. The instrumentation is classic Honda, being clear and simple along with fold down handlebars for storage or transportation.

How does it drive?
It starts as you would expect for a Honda, despite being only 50cc the gearing allows the bike to go down the road at a surprising pace. They are simple to ride and can be legally ridden on the road on a standard licence.

Why this one?
A really early original UK registered example having Historic status offering exemption from any road fund licence cost and an annual MOT. The bike was fully refurbished with genuine Honda parts in 2003 with very little use since. The file is complete with old MOT certificates, tax discs, parts invoices and the original ignition key. The bike completed the 500-mile Monkey Bike Road Run in 2005 and proudly has the certificate of proof.

Pub fact
The name, ‘Dax’ was inspired by the machine’s squat, sausage dog-like proportions, like that of the dachshund dog.
