A good friend of mine purchased this car in 1995 from a classic car dealer in Hove UK. It was owned by one lady owner, a Florence Seale from Bath. She purchased the car new on 19. 6. 1958 and used the car only for short trips all the way till 1997 when at the age of 87 she had to give up driving due to ill health. At that stage the car had only covered 10, 000 miles. It had been kept in a heated garage all its life and was in amazingly untouched and original condition. Post purchase the car was driven from Hove back to Dublin via Rosslare without issue. (The accompanying magazine article has confused the last owner with my friend!)
Once home and after close examination it was discovered just how original the car actually was. The body was all original bar one welded area on the passenger sill. The engine was original and never been apart. The interior was factory original with the plastic sheets still inside the door panels and the original Ford paper part number labels still attached to the seat frames.
In 1997 the last owner purchased the car from my friend and set about a series of sympathetic improvements. An aftermarket overdrive unit with separate gear lever to engage provides a remarkable improvement in the usability of the car. Addition soundproofing was added and the seats repadded using the original covers.
By 2007 at the time of the magazine article in the Irish Vintage Scene the mileage was noted at 13, 000 in a photograph in the feature.
Further enhancements carried out subsequently include an engine rebuild with Aquaplane head and inlet manifold fitted. Twin SU carbs with K & N filters and electronic ignition complete the visible engine improvements. An electric fuel pump, brake servo, upgraded radiator, starter motor and battery are also fitted.
Inside there is an aftermarket oil pressure gauge, ammeter, clock and rev counter fitted along with a hidden radio. Hazard warning light switch and variable wiper switch also fitted along with a fire extinguisher
Outside it is apparent the car has received a top quality respray, along with Lucas P700 Tripod headlamps, Lucas driving lamps, aftermarket reverse lights. Recent Dunlop tyres are fitted all round.
The tools are present in their original hession bag in the boot. Sadly the history file is lost. Car comes with the registration certificate and copy of the Irish Vintage Scene featuring the car
