Chrysler Town and Country Convertible
Imported from Arizona in 2006 and was built in the first quarter of 1947
Finished in Palace Brick Brown (which was only used in that period)
It has a 5. 3 litre straight eight engine and a fluid drive ( semi automatic) operated by a column shift which can be started in low for the 1st and 2nd gears and then moved to high for 3rd and 4th, the “safety” clutch disengages the drive.
The interior bench seats are leather, and the canvas hood, with a zip out glass rear window, is electrically operated.
The car body is in excellent condition, as is the chassis and underside.
The wooden superstructure is white ash, and the inlaid panels on the doors and trunk lid are mahogany. Again, all are in excellent condition.
The car starts and runs well, moving smoothly through the gears. The hood-lifting mechanism was overhauled in 2022 and now raises and lowers the hood better than when it arrived in this country.
The engine core plugs were replaced recently, the dynamo has been rebuilt and the radiator re- cored.
The car has won many Show Awards during the past 15 years and was a finalist in the NEC Classic Car Show Car of the Year for the Classic American magazine.
The Town and Country Convertible was the flagship of Chrysler’s post-war range of cars and several film stars and people of note were proud owners.
Production of this model ended in 1948.
This car is the only one of its type in the UK.
The car is just under 20ft in length and just over 6ft wide, weighing in at just under 3 tons.
