Buying a Maserati Spyder in 2003 meant taking ownership of one of the most fascinating Italian supercars of the early millennium.
The entry of the Ferrari group into Maserati brought numerous changes to the mechanics of the new Modenese cars. One innovation stood out above all others, that of the famous "Cambiocorsa" transmission.
It was the first time ever that Maserati adopted such a solution, an electro-hydraulic gearbox derived directly from Ferrari's Formula 1 experiences. The result was an incredible shift speed that aided the performance of the 8-cylinder engine, also sourced from Ferrari.
Most customers at the time preferred to opt for the Cambiocorsa variant.
The design was much more modern than the outdated Maserati 3200 GT, and represented a real step change in sports car production.
In its modernity it won the hearts of many Trident enthusiasts, because it still exuded the old-world charm of craftsmanship.
