Announced in the late summer of 1932, the Morris 10/ 4 surprised its rivals by virtue of its superior Lockheed hydraulic brakes, most small family cars of the period continuing to rely on mechanical systems. The four-cylinder side valve engine drove via a three-speed gearbox and in most other respects, the 10 was entirely conventional. This example benefits from a four speed gearbox. This model was also extremely successful, helping Morris establish a commanding presence in the increasingly important 10hp market sector. The 10/ 4 provided a generous amount of accommodation for this type of car (it was identical to the Twelve in all respects save for the latter's larger engine) with ample legroom in the rear compartment.
The 4 door saloon version we offer here was first registered in Birmingham on 11th July 19 1933 and was supplied by Morris Dealer Frank Whitworth Ltd of Birmingham. The history file contains the original invoice (Cost of car being £169. 10s) for the car to a Mr. G. Williams of Perry Bar, Birmingham, together with the original Morris Motors Guarantee and even several driving licences dated 1927 onwards. According to the accompanying buff log book Mr. Williams was to keep the car until at least 1950, at which time he left the car in his will to his local church. Also on file is a history search from the DVLA detailing a list of owners going back to 1979.
At some time in the last 15 years the car has been restored, repainted and the interior re trimmed by Bevan of Cheltenham to a very high standard. The Morris has the usual rear window blind, working sun roof, ignition isolator switch and rear luggage rack with a period trunk.
The car would grace any Morris collection and is ready to show.
