Description
History:
The Fiat 124 Sport Spider belongs to the vehicle category "Roadster" and was produced as a model variant of the Fiat 124 from mid-1966 to 1982 by Fiat itself and from 1982 to 1985 by Pininfarina on behalf of Fiat, recognisable by the different logo on the radiator grille, steering wheel and gear knob. The body of the 124 Sport Spider is the work of Pininfarina designer Tom Tjaarda. The design is based on the Chevrolet Corvette Rondine show car presented in 1963. Fiat took the Spider out of production in autumn 1982; Pininfarina produced it until summer 1985 as the 124 DS under the model name Pininfarina Spider Europe. This model had a 2. 0-litre injection engine with 105 hp (77 kW), which was fitted with an exhaust catalytic converter shortly before the end of production in July 1985 to reduce performance. This Spider Europe is one of those last produced, finished in the special Azzurra colour and fitted with the sought-after Abarth alloy wheels. The special roadster was first delivered in Zurich in March 1985 and has changed hands twice since.
Bodywork and paintwork:
The original paintwork of this extremely well-maintained example is absolutely original and has never been repainted. Thus, the intact body also proves its proverbial untouched condition. There are traces of corrosion visible in a few places, but these did not constitute a defect for the fresh MOT. However, Goodtimer recommends a full conservation of the underbody and the cavities to give the beautiful car a protection again for the next 6 years. For aesthetic reasons, the bulky bumpers of the last series have been replaced by the attractive full chrome bumpers of the earlier series.
Interior:
The interior showed signs of wear over the course of almost 40 years, which is why the previous owner had the seats newly covered with genuine leather. This gives the entire vehicle almost a new-car feel.
Engine and mechanics:
The regular care of the vehicle's technology is also documented by the complete exhaust maintenance booklet. On the occasion of the fresh veteran MFK, a new battery and all drive belts, including the timing belt for the engine, were renewed in addition to the service.
Chassis:
Chassis and brakes passed the MFK test bench measurement without any problems.
Driving experience:
Italian serenity, pure convertible feeling and a rock-solid classic - there's so much of it that it's hard to beat in terms of its enjoyment/ price ratio. The solid 2-litre engine impresses with its fantastic torque and allows for leisurely cruising as well as a somewhat sportier pace.
Recommendation:
In the 30, 000 franc class, the Italians called Alfa Romeo and Fiat are hard to beat for a fresh air experience. This Spider Europe impresses with its rarity value and the particularly noble equipment. A flawless and complete history is not yet so important for classic cars in this price range, but it is still good to know that this roadster has been lovingly cared for over the past 38 years.
