Jaguar XK140 DHC, presented in the stunning British racing green with suede green interior.
BACKGROUND
First registered on 17 September 1955 to Captain F T Taylor and distributed through Henly’s Ltd (London). The current and 7th owner purchased the vehicle in 2016 from Twyford Moors, where it had been on their stand at the NEC car show in Birmingham. At the time the XK140 had covered 27, 000 miles and after many fabulously enjoyable miles of touring, now displays 47, 270 miles on the odometer. The engine, chassis and bodyshell are all matching numbers with the original factory vehicle and are supported by a Jaguar heritage certificate. The VE60 continuation logbook records her ownership from 1969 - the current V5 logbook states 7 owners. The vehicle also retains the original number plate of “VJH 524”. An extensive history file is included with many upgrades to allow for long distance touring.
RESTORATION
A full restoration took place in the early noughties by Leaping Cats in preparation for the XK Club, St Petersburg rally in 2005. Included in the file are some photographs from the 1960-70’s showing the vehicle with rear wheel spats. The next piece of detailed history is the late 1990’s to early 2000 when the XK140 underwent a comprehensive restoration. Detailed receipts and pictures from the time are available. During this time, a full engine rebuild was completed and the mileage zeroed.
MECHANICAL UPGRADES AND MAINTENANCE
The XK140 performance needs no introduction with 190bhp and 0-60 in just 8. 3secs. In 1955 this vehilcle was and still is a real head turner. This XK140 has been maintained professionally and meticulously throughout ownership. Twyford Moor, Sergeants of Goudhurst and XK Specialists Turner Classics in Margate have completed a considerable volume of the maintenance. The last full service was undertaken by Turner’s only recently in March 2023.
Equipped with a 5 speed Getrag gearbox conversion from Guy Broad, the vehicle is touring fit and will cruise comfortably at modern day speeds. Other upgrades include disc brakes all around, power steering, two speed Kenlowe fan, Jaguar motif seatbelts, brake servo on handbrake, switched radiator fan (automated at approx. 80 degrees, although never experienced any overheating issues), custom alloy header tank, electronic 123 ignition, Spax shock absorbers, discreet and hidden Bluetooth radio/ CD player, manual choke (changed from auto), stainless steel fuel tank and an alloy radiator.
EXTERIOR
Any interested party coming to view the XK, will quickly see that the restoration has been completed to a very high standard. The paintwork remains excellent to this day and despite the mileage covered, is a testament to the great level of care and appreciation shown by the current owners. Door gaps and close positions all align as they were when the vehicle left the factory. The vinyl roof is in excellent condition and operates with ease.
INTERIOR
The carpets, door trims, dashboard and headlining show no signs of any damage, markings or fatigue. The original bench seats offered little support for longer journeys, therefore County Coach Trimmers (JD Classics trimmers) supplied bucket seats in the beautiful suede green to contract perfectly with the exterior.
TOURING
Soon after her comprehensive restoration the then owner’s wife was diagnosed with a terminal illness and it was decided to enjoy her remaining years with travel and adventure. The owners and car entered the 2006 XK Club, St Petersburg rally, going north through Scandinavia, then entering Russia via Finland. A high-speed police motorbike convoy escorted the cars from the Russian border into St Petersburg. There is a copy of the XK Gazette on file which covered the rally back to the UK through the Baltic States, Poland, and Germany.
Over the past 7 years and current ownership, the vehicle has enjoyed touring trips that include France, Corsica, Spain, Northern Ireland, Southern Ireland, Scotland & Greece. With not one hiccup throughout, the current owners pride themselves on the XK140 having been regularly maintained and ready to take on any journey.
It is with a heavy heart that after 7 fabulous years of ownership and an ambition to expand their touring miles to the next level, the loving owners of this XK140 seek to find a new home where the owner can enjoy the vehicle in all its glory. A beautiful example of the highly desirable XK140 DHC, with an excellent record of maintenance and ownership, surely not to be missed.
