In 1962 Alfa Romeo released its new Giulia sedan but was unable to break away from the Giulietta Sprint and Spider, although they were destined to retire. The Milanese firm therefore decided to extend their existence for a few more years by equipping them with a new engine capacity and giving them the sweet name of “Giulia”. This is how Alfa Romeo achieves the perfect compromise between the more advanced and more powerful mechanics of the Giulia and the iconic and still current lines of the Giulietta. It was on June 27, 1962 that Alfa Romeo presented the Giulia 1600 Sprint and Spider on the Monza circuit, equipped with a 1, 570 cc engine developing 91 hp at 6, 200 rpm with a 5-speed gearbox. Allowing this coupe to reach a top speed of 172 km/ h, a great feat for the time. To differentiate the Giullietta from the Giulia, 1600 monograms are placed on the rear trunk and the front fenders, the side indicators are now rectangular. As for the interior, it benefits from a redesigned dashboard covered in imitation leather and new heating controls. The steering wheel is now made of black bakelite and has 3 aluminum spokes. The door panels are entirely covered in imitation leather. The Giulia Sprint 1600 will be built in 7, 107 copies, the last of which in 1964.
This very rare example in this superb condition is being sold by its third owner. The front drum brakes were recently replaced by discs for greater efficiency but the original parts are present. The car runs perfectly and is pure pleasure to drive. Belgian oldtimer registration
