As a certified Citroen vehicle technician in Mayenne since 1962, the current owner of this 2cv went on a mission to find a beautiful Charleston example when he discovered that the production of the 2cv would permanently cease on the 27th July 1990.
It was in early November of the same year that a friend (Head of Sales at the Citroen dealership in Rennes) told him that he's found a rare gem: he just got a Charleston in black and Delage red with an original mileage of only 1, 600km, which was sold new in April 1990 in Ile & Vilaine. The deal was done in a heartbeat and the car was registered on the 16th November 1990. Since then, this gorgeous example has been piously preserved in the basement of the house; it's been regularly used but with extreme parsimony in its exact original condition, so much so that it only totals a little bit more than 6000 km from new today.
All servicing reports included in the file also bear witness to the evolution of this mileage. The bodywork has never been repainted and is in exceptional condition, as well as the substructure presented here in rare condition.
The smell of new still lingers inside the car and when getting behind the wheel, the smoothness and precision of all controls feel amazing. All servicing logbooks and manuals are included in the folder located in the glove box, as well as the full original set of tools located in the boot: wooden block, jack, crank, grille protection for cold weather and a spare wheel. Under the bonnet, the original twin-cylinder engine runs perfectly. All markings and factory labels are present! After spending 33 years in meticulous hands, this exceptional 2cv deserves to join a nice collection.
