DESCRIPTION

The Sierra platform was chosen as the basis for a Group A contender on account of its slippery shape and perfect size. A high profile racing programme along with an exciting new flagship would add a little sparkle to the range, The Ford Sierra Rs Cosworth was born. Ford asked Cosworth to develop a turbocharged version of the Sierra’s two-litre inline engine. Built in Ford’s Genk factory in Belgium production started in July 1986 and ended in January 1987.

EXTERNAL

Finished in Fords Factory optional extra Metallic moonstone blue the paintwork looks nothing short of amazing, With a unique front bumper incorporating an array of large cooling intakes for the brakes and the radiator, The nose panel above(which shrouded the headlights)features a design enabling more air to reach the intercooler along with two air escape vents on the bonnet to enable the hot air escape from within the engine compartment, Wheel arch extensions were fitted joined with a side skirt, along with the legendary rear spoiler. Exterior trims and colour coded mirrors are in excellent condition along with the ‘cibie’ headlamp glass.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION

The original RS Cosworth powerplant warrants little introduction. Fitted with the standard 2. 0 Dual Over Head Cam (DOHC) with Garrett AiResearch T3 turbocharger and intercooler, the motorsport pedigree of this car is unrivalled. With an output of 204HP allowing the car to accelerate smoothly with 0-60 achieved in 6. 2 seconds and will reach a top speed of 149mph, this truly is a recipe to set the heart racing. The low mileage is clearly evident when changing through the gears with crisp, tight and precise progression up and down the range.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES

The standard 15 X 7 inch RS Sierra Cosworth alloy wheels are shod with ultra rare original Dunlop SP Sport 205/ 50 R15 tyres all round, with excellent tread remaining. Retaining the factory standard finish, the wheels are exceptional Diagonally split hydraulic circuits, anti-lock braking assisted 28. 3cm ventilated discs up front and 27. 3cm discs at the rear bringing the car to a sure controlled steady halt.
