‘George,’ as this 1956 Mercedes Benz 300C is affectionately known, is today a common sight on Australia’s roads.
Delivered new in Germany to an Australian medical professional based in the UK, the car was driven in Europe for around two years before being brought to our shores. It was well loved and meticulously maintained by its original owners.
Today, ‘George’ is presented in immaculate condition in the hands of only its second-ever owners, and is a regular participant in many rallies and events across Australia, and especially in Victoria where it is domiciled. It’s also been a regular family wedding and school deb conveyance, and has won class prizes at concours along the way for its owners, who are active members of the Mercedes Benz club.
Wearing deep Black paint (DB 40) typical of the era of this most prestigious of Mercedes models, the 300C ‘Adenauer’ is trimmed inside in a light green punched velour. Its paint and copious chrome trim are in excellent condition, showing few signs of its regular miles covered, as is the cabin trim with its period woodwork and radio.
Under the bonnet, the 2996cc six cylinder engine is neat and tidy, and it’s mated to a three-speed automatic transmission, while this big Benz also sits on the correct steel wheels with hubcaps and comes with a professionally tailored car cover. It previously wore Victorian club registration.
Everything is very nicely presented, leaving its new (only third) owners nothing to do but keep the tradition alive and enjoy regular outings.
