Description

A thoroughly interesting DB4 with a complete known history which I'll briefly encapsulate here:

Purchased by Mrs Mary Crook of Salcombe Devon on the 2nd of February 1961, registered MC 1 and supplied by OKE Bros Ltd of Kingsbridge, Devon. The car then passed then to Mr Charles N Hill of Sidmouth on the 13th of April 1965, registered as 266 TOD. He replaced this number with his own registration plate CNH 20. On the 25th of November 1966 the DB4 was purchased by Mr Colin Bond, complete with registration number 406 TOD. It was registered to his company – Thompson Bros Ltd of Bridgewater in Somerset.

The mileage at this time was 28, 700 miles. He drove the car for a little over six years, until ill health made him take the car off the road and place it in storage. In 1981 the car was MOT’d , taxed, serviced and ready for the road again, the mileage was at this time was 57, 213 miles, she was only to travel 55 miles that year before being placed back into storage. In 1982 the car passed to Mr Colin Bond’s son and it remained in storage until the 21st of February 1998, when it was sold again, who had by chance known the car from new.

This keeper was responsible for the stunning restoration which won him 1st place in the Elite Class at the 2004 Aston Martin Owners Club Concours, held at Woburn Abbey. The car was subject a detailed restoration, which has involved the best marquee specialists, including Spray Tec Restorations Ltd (for paintwork), Bodylines Specialist Panel Beaters (for chassis and bodywork) and Motorman Engineering.

The original SU Carburettors were retained so that the engine looks completely standard. Other works carried out include Full flow oil cooler, electric radiator fan, which are hidden from view. The suspension has been uprated with new springs, a thicker anti roll bar and Koni shock absorbers at the front. A high ratio back axle (same as Zagato) with Powerlock Limited Slip Differential has also been fitted. The front brakes were uprated and Borrani Wire Wheels, complete with spinners (an original option) were fitted.

David's customer kept the car until 2015 when the current owner took over the reins.... oddly it was someone I've known since my school days and again, unsurprisingly this DB4 caught his equally discerning eye, joining his early 250 Lusso, Fraser Nash and few other choice pieces in his rather nice garage complex shortly afterwards!

Being a fastidious soul, latterly the few oil spots on his porcelain tiled garage floor led to some investigated. Rather than half a job, the engine was sent to RS Williams for repair and then reassembled & reinstalled by another favoured specialist using new pistons plus much besides.

Given the known history and indicated mileages at ownership changes, it's totally plausible that the current mileage of 63, 972 is correct. Add to the fact this is a Series II, & perhaps to many the best looking of the 5 series cars, the mesh grill, high bonnet scoop, low roof line and short back end, all of which add to its already compelling ownership appeal.

It would be a pleasure to answer any questions you might have. However, to really appreciate this Aston Martin it needs to be seen “in the flesh”, so do please call me directly on the details below to arrange a viewing at our new Redhill showroom.
