The XS850 was based on the reliable shaft-drive XS750 triple that won Motorcycle News Motorcycle of The Year in 1977. As was popular for the era, a ‘factory custom’ version was released, designated as the XS850 LG or more commonly – Midnight Special. Adorned with a distinctive black/ gold livery and gold wheels, the model had a much more personalized feel without the need for the owner to make modifications themselves.
This well-presented Midnight Special has received some cosmetic restoration and mechanical upgrade work to convert it in to a Café Racer. The seat has been customized and airbox replaced with short Ram-Air filters. The exhaust system has been renewed together with the rear shocks and custom rear sets made. The XS850 is offered in a ready-to-go state having been recently used. Perfectly functional as it is or could have further mechanical and cosmetic work to enhance the Café Racer style. Previously registered overseas and imported in 2007, now registered as a historic vehicle the Yamaha is eligible for £0 road tax and exempt from MOT. A V5C is available.
