After a long waiting, Mercedes has reintroduced the four-seater family open-top to its range with the debut of the 300 CE-24 convertible at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 1991. Production of the SE cabriolet version of the previous convertible, the predecessor of the S-Class, ended in 1971.
From the highly successful Mercedes W 124, which had become iconic at the time of its production, the convertible was built on the basis of the coupe, to be a comfortable family convertible. More than a thousand parts of the coupe had to be changed and reinforced to create the convertible version, but in the end the convertible was only 74 kg heavier and its boot was only 80 litres smaller when open.
The E cabriolet was a great success as a four-seater (family cabriolet), and thanks to its double-insulated roof it can be used as a fully-fledged car, essentially as a coupe, even in bad weather conditions, with minimal noise inside the cabin too.
The 320 CE was powered by a three-litre, six-cylinder petrol engine with 220 hp, the most powerful engine built into the 6-cylinder W 124, interestingly, it was the four-cylinder versions that sold more and it was the more powerful version that became rare, with only 6359 units of the 300 CE 24 and the slightly more powerful 320 CE (and far fewer of the 320 CE convertible).

The advertised car comes from the Mediterranean region, so there is no rust, it has had a careful, car-collecting owner who has kept it in a covered garage all this time and has serviced and maintained it constantly.
It has a mileage of only .... thousand kilometres, which is very low compared to its brand peers and based on its condition, it has a real mileage.
The paintwork is perfect, the retractable roof is in very good condition (including the interior upholstery, which is very rare), the automatic roof is in perfect working order. Interior is very aesthetically pleasing, seats are essentially as new, wood trim is scratch free.
The black metallic finish with the black leather interior and dark wood interior is one of the nicest colour combinations in this model. It was also often featured in catalogues and advertisements of the time.

The engine pulls very nicely, it is very powerful, you can feel the straight six cylinder engine, you don't need a more powerful car in a convertible, it overtakes easily on the motorway and in town, on the motorway the performance is superior, no compromises are made.
It's still a strong car in today's traffic, even with the roof down with four people. Speed pick-up is smooth, gear changes are hardly noticeable. With the top down, it has a very nice, sporty sound and is a pleasure to drive, not only for the driver but also for the three passengers.
