Description
The Mercedes-Benz w116 range was produced between 1972 and 1980.
It hails from a time when Mercedes built cars up to a standard, not down to a price, and when everything they did was almost obsessively over-engineered.
The first models to officially carry S-Class nomenclature.
Finished in Milan Brown with MB tex upholstery (both special order at the time), this 450 SE is as 1970s as an avocado bathroom suite. The rich Milan Brown paintwork is superb and has deep, coppery sheen to it that adds real depth of lustre to the finish. The MB-Tex upholstery is the perfect 1970's tonal counterpoint to the Milan Brown exterior. The upholstery is unmarked and the seats - front and back- are comfortable and supportive.
The door cards and roof lining are virtually as-new, as are the original carpets and mats.
All switches, knobs, levers, and bits of detail look unused, including the netting magazine pockets (airline style) behind the front seats, two keys and a lovely sounding Becker europa radio cassette player, even the original first aid kit is still intact.
A full body restoration was carried out in 2016, when the car was placed on a rotisserie and stripped back to bare metal all fully documented, as an eye watering expense!
The S class has also spent time at "SL shop" as part of the extensive restoration. Everything from the steering box to throttle linkages was refurbished.
Having covered only 76000 miles from new. The seats are still factory firm, it has been on some recent long trips away and it sits very comfortable gliding along at 90mph, taking you right back to when Mercedes built the most comfortable solid cars in the world by far.
This 450 SE really turns heads wherever it goes, the amount of pictures and attention it receives out in the city or town from people of all ages is overwhelming!, Which proves the almost 45 years on it is still ultimate class and status symbol in motoring
