The Jaguar Type E, also known as the "Jaguar E-Type" in the UK and the "Jaguar XK-E" in the United States, is an icon of the 1960s and 1970s, manufactured by the British carmaker Jaguar. First unveiled at the Geneva International Motor Show in 1961, it succeeded the famous XK series. Its production spanned from 1961 to 1975, offering enthusiasts three distinct models: the convertible, the coupe, and the 2+2 model. During this period, the car underwent three main series as well as two limited editions.

Designed by aerodynamicist Malcolm Sayer under the direction of William Lyons, the Jaguar Type E is distinguished by its elegant and modern line, partly evoking the Jaguar Type D. Over the years, numerous evolutions and modifications were made to enhance its performance, safety, comfort, and to meet ever-evolving regulatory requirements. In total, 72, 584 units of the Type E were produced, making it one of Jaguar's greatest commercial successes.

The Series 1, initially launched with the renowned 3. 8-liter XK six-cylinder engine, featuring three SU carburetors and a double overhead camshaft (DOHC) from the Jaguar XK150S, marks the beginning of the legend. This series comes in two versions depending on the engine displacement, either 3. 8 liters until 1964, then 4. 2 liters. With a power of 265 bhp (boiler horsepower), equivalent to around 268. 7 horsepower, this car was available as a coupe or convertible, with the introduction of the 2+2 model in 1966. From Series 3 onwards, the two-seat coupe model is no longer manufactured.

Distinctive features of the Series 1 include covered glass headlights, half bumpers front and rear, as well as "aviation" type dashboard switches. At its market launch, its price ranged between approximately $43, 000 and $61, 000.

The Series 1 is highly coveted by collectors, with its value continually increasing, especially since its fiftieth anniversary in 2011. Among the most sought-after models is the 3. 8-liter convertible. Today, the offered Jaguar Type E is a Series 1 convertible in restored condition, representing a prized piece for enthusiasts and collectors passionate about classic automobiles.
