Completely restored to concours condition, we are delighted to offer this incredible opportunity to own a genuine piece of TVR history.

Created to challenge the 24 Hours of Le Mans, this is the original T440R which would secure TVR with homologation and FIA Approval to enter GT1 Class Endurance Racing.

Initially entitled ‘Tuscan R’ (R standing for Racing) the project began during the late 1990’s with ambitions of returning TVR to La Sarthe for the first time in more than 40 years.

With an entirely new approach required to maintain speeds above 200MPH on the Mulsanne Straight, the T440R was built entirely by hand with a specialist in house team. Designed with the help of cutting-edge CAD/ CAM Technology, the complex and advanced structure was both hugely advanced and expensive to develop and was like no other TVR built before it – or since.

With its naturally aspirated engine producing more than 400Bhp and weighing in at just over 1100Kgs, the performance of the T440R was quite simply staggering. Sophisticated aerodynamics generated a drag coefficient of just 0. 32 and the production methods included a flat floor design constructed from resin filled aluminium honeycomb. This structure was then bonded and bolted directly to the seamless tubular chassis and integral roll cage. A separate lightweight carbon fibre tub was then also bonded to the structure together with the carbon fibre body adding further strength and rigid reinforcement.

With this particular example having remained Road Registered, this is the original factory press car which can be seen in the marketing literature and brochures at the time. It was also famously driven by Jeremy Clarkson in his 2002 film ‘No Limits’ which can be seen on YouTube.

Ahead of TVRs return to Le Mans in 2003, the T440R was painted in the DeWalt racing colours of the Le Mans race cars and used for promotional purposes before being purchased by its current and only private keeper in August 2008.

As a long term TVR owner and enthusiast, the new keeper decided to embark upon a total rebuild and return ‘PN02 ZNG’ to its original colour combination and current concours condition.

Having entrusted the skills of long-term marque experts TVR101 to complete the project, the Speed-Six Engine was fully rebuilt to 4. 4Ltr. specification by TVR Power. Dyno tests show performance figures above 420bhp and with almost 400ft/ lb of torque having been recorded. With each and every element meticulously replaced or restored, brand new mechanical items included a new close ratio gearbox and differential, a specially mapped ECU together with new suspension and shock absorbers and a bespoke exhaust system all having been commissioned and installed.

Finished in striking ‘Candy Apple Ruby Pearl’, the quality and finish of the paintwork has to be seen to be fully appreciated. In addition, the completely re-trimmed and luxurious quality of the Nimbus Grey and Red leather interior is complemented by exposed hi-gloss carbon fibre which reflects exactly how the T440R looked when new.

A photographic record of each stage of the restoration is on file together with the original factory marketing literature which help document this rare and very special TVR being returned to its current and immaculate condition.

With the Cerbera Speed 12 having sold for more than £600K earlier this year, this original T440R represents an incredible chance to own an immaculate piece of TVR history for a fraction of that value.
