1986 Range Rover Overfinch 570 S
Fitted with the 5, 7 litre Corvette engine, this was the very first car to wear the Overfinch name, it was the development car/ prototype
Arthur Silverton pioneered the concept of the performance 4x4 way before Land Rover themselves realised the potential for a high performance version of the Range Rover.
This car originally registered 64 SPL - now D884 RJW was his personal development vehicle and played a part in every Overfinch Range Rover model subsequently, this test car was heavily used in their publicity and featured in all motoring magazine tests in that period.
The car has a huge history file, lots of road test articles, old mot's full dvla history trace, it has formed part of a large collection of rare and interesting Land rovers for the past decade, it has been un-used during this time, as such it is being sold as a re-commisioning/ restoration project, we have had it running using a slave fuel supply, (the fuel pump is faulty but one is on order and will be supplied with the car) the engine sounds great, the car was in daily use when parked up.
The car could be made roadworthy very easily in our opinion, the chassis is sound, there is no welding needed, it would benefit from being cleaned up and wax oiled or similar, the floors and inner/ outer sills are also all good, it looks like there has never been any previous welding carried out.
3 of the doors have some corrosion to the steel inner door frame but all will repair fairly easily without replacement, the outer skins are very good
The conversion on these cost £20, 000 back in 1986 which effectively doubled the price of a new range rover to £40, 000 they were and still are very exclusive, it was much more than a simple engine conversion, the gearbox, brakes, suspension, exhaust, cooling system, wheels, steering were all heavily uprated.
This has the 570 S (sport) conversion which was at the time the ultimate and most expensive conversion available, the S version fitted to this car had additional performance upgrades over the 570 T conversion including Alloy cylinder heads, ported and a higher compression ratio.
Overfinch Heritage are still producing these classic Range Rovers and will sell you a fully restored car for £385, 000 !!
A genuine and very important piece of Land Rover/ Overfinch history, this will make a fantastic and interesting project, a must for any serious Land Rover/ Range Rover collection.
The original Overfinch steering wheel is included but not fitted to the car
The mileage is 117k which is barely run in for one of these !
