Description

The Aston Martin DB7 GTA was the top-of-the-line DB7. Only the DB7 GT, which had a slightly more powerful engine and a manual gearbox, eclipsed it. However, the GTA is actually the rarer of the two. Only 112 were made – of which 60 were for the UK market. Only the DB7 Zagato and the DB AR1 are rarer, with 99 cars made for each.

There has never been a better time to purchase one of these great Astons, with prices now being so attractive. A guaranteed classic, the DB7 GTA is very likely to appreciate once the market recovers. This particular GTA is a little different in that it isn’t in one of the many silver or other standard colour variants. And with its vibrant interior and recent works undertaken by renowned Aston Martin specialist Chicane, this makes for one very special Aston Martin.

- The Car -

Supplied new by JCT 600 of Leeds in May 2003, this RHD GTA comes in Rolls Royce Peacock Blue with an Ocean leather and Navy alcantara interior with Black Oak wood trim panels. Interestingly, the seats are centrally lined with Navy alcantara, not leather, and it is understood that this colour option was only specified on 2 GTAs.

As with all GTAs, this car has the ‘Touchtronic’ semi-automatic gearbox, the modified suspension, larger disc brakes, free-flowing sports exhaust, unique 5-spoke alloy wheels and modified body aerodynamics. The final drive ratio is also upped to produce greater acceleration. Furthermore, it comes with the usual refinements of air conditioning and heated front and rear windscreens in addition to the sculptured seats from the V12 Vanquish. All these changes and more have been brought together to create a much more distinctive car than a standard DB7 Vantage.

In addition to the standard package, this GTA has a silver gear knob to match the centre console dials and interior colour coded sections to the steering wheel. This Aston is also fitted with a Quicksilver large bore stainless steel exhaust system. And according to Quicksilver's own data, this increases power by 15 bhp.

This GTA is in very good condition and at just over 58, 130 miles, it’s certainly not a high mileage car by any means but has spent its life being used, not garaged. And Astons don’t like sitting in garages. Finally, the number plate of D13 GTA comes with the car and is a most fitting addition to this rare Aston Martin.

- Its History -

Over its lifetime, this GTA has been serviced by Aston Martin Works, main dealers and certain renowned specialists:

From new to 2005 – JCT 600 of Leeds.
2007 to 2009 – Works Service in Newport Pagnell.
2011 to 2013 – Trinity Engineering and Chiltern Aston.
2014 to 2023 – Stratton Motor Company of Norfolk.
2024 onwards – Chicane.

In 2023, the wheels were refurbished and are now dressed in Bridgestone Turanza tyres, all with plenty of tread remaining. The most recent works to the car have been undertaken by Aston Martin specialist Chicane covering a full service, the replacement of the front suspension wishbone bushes and specialist repairs to the rear caliper bleed nipples, along with a fresh MOT which expires March 2025.

This GTA comes with all documents, a full service history booklet and a spare set of keys.

- On the Road -

This is not just an improved DB7 Vantage for it is undoubtedly quite a different car due to its many upgrades. Most noticeable is the acceleration and initial take up, both which are superior to the DB7 Vantage. The GTA is a much more accomplished car when it comes to ride and road holding too, feeling more taught and leaving you with a sense of greater control. With the addition of the Quicksilver exhaust, it gives this GTA an advantage over others along with a much more purposeful exhaust note. There are GTAs, then there is this one.

For the taller amongst you, the V12 Vanquish seats sit a little lower, thus giving a bit more headroom and, though it’s a personal opinion, the seats are more supportive. The larger brakes are welcome, though they still need a bit of warming up for the best bite.

The differences might be small individually, but they all add up to make a car that is very different from a DB7 Vantage, yet around town or with standard driving, there is equally a lot of similarity. It’s on the open roads that the changes are most noticeable.

- Conclusion -

This car has a wonderful colour combination and therefore represents an ideal opportunity to acquire a car that is certain to put a smile on your face, as well as being fully road ready.
