Description
The ‘People’s Car’ has had many variants since 1938 and, despite always being faithful to the iconic four-cylinder boxer, the engine has kept pace with technological developments during the almost 70 years of production.
This 1303 S has the ‘most interesting’ engine behind the rear axle. With 1600cc and 50 HP, it quickly received the nickname ‘Super Beetle’. The suspension has also been revised, it receives rack and pinion steering and the front axle has disc brakes, which translates into a much safer and…sportier drive!
Sold in Portugal in April 1976, it is painted in the eye-catching Hellas Gold Metallic and has some interesting options, such as 15-inch Lemmerz wheels, sports seats and a three-spoke leather steering wheel.
This example underwent a complete and well-documented restoration in 2006. A regular participant in VW Ar Clube de Portugal events, this example, given its originality and good condition, also appeared prominently in the book Carochas em Portugal.
