We are delighted to present for sale this stunning Series 2a softop, having been extensively rebuilt and improved in recent years. As can be seen from the photos, this is not only a high specification Land Rover but also enjoys a great standard of presentation.
The outside enjoys a light pastel green sprayed finish, with recent sand canvas. A galvanised front bumper, wing mounted mirrors, military bonnet clips, bonnet mounted spare and original glass lenses make up the smart front appearance…. to the sides, there are the proper deep sills, limestone wheels sporting superb 750 military chevron tyres for a great look, performance off road and also an increased gearing on road. Towards the rear the Richards galvanised chassis proudly states its worth, adorned with grab handles, a height adjustable towbar, and more of those lovely period glass lenses. It’s also prudent to note, that when rebuilt, the bulkhead on this 2a was repaired and galvanised, thus preserving that vunerable element for year to come….. a nice touch.
The interior has a similar feel, and is a really nice place to be – there are a lovely set of hign backs with cubby box which still look period, but give much greater functionality – a clayton heater is fitted for those winter mornings, and the overdrive lever sticking out reminds you that you’re going to be bombing along better when the sun comes out. The dash looks nice and original and it’s also nice to see the individual 60’s wiper motors still survive and work! All in all it’s a good space – the rear is unfitted, but this does allow for a pair of bench seats and extra belts if required. If not, then it’s good for dogs, bikes, logs and anything else you would care to transport. An ignition cut off switch is discreetly fitted to guard against both theft and slow drain of the battery.
Out on the road, this lovely 2a sits very well – it pootles along very well indeed, aided by the FWH (which reduce noise, wear and increase MPG), the overdrive and the oversize tyres – this culminates in a much more relaxed driving experience, and a higher cruising speed at given revs. The Weber, uprated carb assists too, so all in all, it’s a great drive.
In summary, if you are looking for a handsome 2a, that you could and would want to keep for life, then this, in our opinion, is it. With the rebuild, the galvanised elements, and uprated and restored drive train, it promises to deliver for the long term, without serious intervention. With classic insurance, free tax and no MOT inspectorate to dance to, it should also be a really low fuss vehicle to add to the fleet – summer cruising, or winter journeys in the snow alike, it would be a great addition to the family – we love it!
