For sale, through JOHN BROWN 4X4 LTD, Land Rover® Series 2a in Deep Bronze Green (1971).
Petrol 2286cc. MOT & Tax Exempt. Front Deluxe Seats. Door Cards. Seat Belt Bar with 3 point belts. Rear Bench Seats – meaning seating for 7 people including the driver. Heater with Front Demist. Towball and Electrics. Previously sold by us in 2017, and known to us since that time. Genuine Mileage – MOT certificates in the paperwork going back to 1987 – 96, 901 Miles today – believed to have genuine mileage from new.
Here for sale we have a 1971 Series 2a “Crossover” model, which was only only produced for a few years and hence thin on the ground. They are noted for their razor edged bonnets and Maltese grill, which give them a distinctive look. What sets this Series 2a apart from many is the mileage history – records exist from 37 years ago to today, and we have known it personally for the last 8 years too – having sold it previously. Whilst there is a small gap in the history from 1972-86 – everything points to this being a genuine mileage vehicle – including the driving experience – but we would rather err on the side of caution for obvious reasons – though our experience tells us we believe it to be correct, and have no reason to suspect otherwise from the driving experience either.
As can be seen from the photos, this particular vehicle has survived in good order, and keeps all the features one would expect to see. In light of the history we believe it is very fitting to keep this car as original as possible – and there are lots of period items one would hope to see such as the vintage number plates, rear lifting handles, wing top mounted mirrors, recent canvas (fitted by us in 2017), steel wheels and tyres – etc etc. A Towball and electrics has been fitted to allow towing, which is a nice touch and handy for those hoping to use the vehicle for work or play.
On the inside, the standard theme continues – there are 3 deluxe seats in the front – which are the originally fitted seats as they do not have the later “bolster” style which is now the only purchasable modern type. Door cards are fitted to the front doors for a premium feel, with deluxe matting to the footwells. It is good to see the dash survives in good order and a heater is fitted with front demist, which will prevent icing up in colder weather – a very handy extra to have which a prospective owner will much appreciate when the weather turns colder. A seat belt bar has been fitted to allow modern 3 point seat belts in the front outer seats, which is a desirable safety feature and means no aggravation from static seat belts – just click it in and you are good to go. Rear Bench Seats mean seating for seven people including the driver, with a load mat to the floor area to protect against scratches. The spare tyre is correctly housed in the rear against the front bulkhead, on the proper mount, as it should be.
Out on the road, the low mileage is evident to “those in the know” – and this vehicle really excels at delivering a pleasing period drive… it feels well sorted behind the wheel and stops well too. The petrol engine feels very lively and the addition of a later electronic ignition assists here, along with good maintenance in recent times…. meaning reliability should be far superior to the standard set up too.
In summary then, if you are looking for a Series 2a with strong provenance which can carry the whole family in original Classic Land Rover® cool, then this could be for you. With the added bonus of classic insurance, MOT & Tax exemption and a good history file, then the new owner should be making a sound investment for the future which they can enjoy today, rather than having it tied up where it cannot be enjoyed for a day which may never come!
