Description
Back in the 50s, in 1956 to be precise, Daimler was suffering financially. It was therefore decided internally to produce a new model equipped with a 140 hp V8 (for barely 1 tonne). This was the birth of the SP 250, its internal code name, which was originally to have been called the Dart, but when it was presented in New York in 1959, the management of Dodge, which owned the Dart brand at the time, took a dim view of the model's name. To avoid any problems, it was officially called the SP 250, thus taking its internal code name.
Based on a Triumph TR3 chassis, it adopted a distinctive new look, with a fibreglass body (cheaper to produce and, above all, corrosion-free).
The Jaguar brand eventually bought out Daimler in 1964, leaving a competitor for their E-Type. This marked the end of production for the SP 250, which sold just 2, 654 examples of the 3 versions of the model.
We're proud to be bringing home such a rare car, reserved for connoisseurs of cars from the 1960s. It's a safe bet that this model is more likely to be found in books than on the roads and at rallies. It was this rare and exclusive aspect that appealed to us when we brought it in for sale.
The Daimler SP 250 we are offering for sale dates from June 1964, so it is one of the last cars produced. Ivory white with black leather interior, it currently has 80, 000 miles on the clock. Unfortunately, we cannot trace the life of this SP 250, however, its current Belgian owner has owned it since June 2014, when it was just 50 years old. We also know that it arrived in Belgium in 2005 and totalled just under 66, 000 Ml at that time.
The bodywork looks good overall, but is not perfect. There are fine cracks in various places, but no scratches, dents or, logically, traces of corrosion, which is already a major concern on an old car.
The soft top needs to be replaced; in our opinion, it is difficult to salvage.
The interior is also in its patina, in good general condition, enough to show it off and enjoy it. The interior as a whole is in pretty good condition, without being perfect or bad... As far as the mechanics are concerned, we can say that it drives well, having travelled 80 km by road to come to our premises. However, its owner is still going to carry out major maintenance before putting it up for sale. We noted some areas for improvement (oil leak, accessory belt to be changed) and on the basis of our advice, the owner is going to do what's necessary. In addition to this forthcoming invoice, we also have other invoices, which can be viewed on our website. The following have been carried out: replacement of the fan, electronic ignition, 4 new tyres (and 2 spare), replacement of master cylinders (brake and clutch), geometry, new battery, hoses, spark plugs etc ... Note also that we have its hard-top (very rare) in black, which is in good condition, not forgetting its magnificent spoke rims and its sports steering wheel. It is also fitted with a circuit breaker.
A bridge is available at our premises to show you the underside of the vehicle.
