One of only two Works SE89P chassis built by Spice Engineering for the 1989 IMSA GTP season. Chassis 002 was campaigned by Bob Earl, Costas Los, Wayne Taylor, and Scott Atchison to name a few.
This car held its own against the fiercely competitive better funded GTP field, including the TWR Jaguars, Porsche 962s, and Nissan ZX-Ts.
Gaining special historical significance in 1990 when it was driven by Hollywood icon Paul Newman at the 500km of Watkins Glen and Road America. Paired with motoring journalist and experienced driver Mike Brockman, under the ownership of Bob and Linda Lee, 002 became a fan-favorite by adding star power and remained the only Group C/ IMSA car Newman ever raced.
Showcasing its adaptability in period, 002 was powered by Pontiac, Oldsmobile, and Chevrolet V8 engines, whilst experimenting with various aerodynamic configurations, during its active years between 1989–1991.
Notably achieving a podium finish around the streets of New Orleans in 1990, this car is also took on the Daytona 24 Hours and is a two time veteran of the Sebring 12 Hours.
Meticulously restored to Paul Newmans 1990 specification by Pete Chambers, 002 underwent a bare tub rebuild, fitted with a fresh all aluminium Chevrolet V8 engine boasting almost 700bhp.
Recently maintained by highly regarded Moto Historics, where it has proven itself not only to be a race winner in Historic Group C, but also to be solid and reliable.
Accompanied by an extensive spares package including bodywork in Applebee’s livery and three sets of wheels
This represents a front running entry for some of the most prestigious events and series on both sides of the pond, from Peter Auto and Le Mans Classic, HSR's Sebring and Daytona Historics in the US, Masters new Group C series, and of course the Dubai Historic GP.
