Lot 262
1963 Triumph 100cc Tina
Registration no. WTS 687A
Chassis no.
Designed by the great Edward Turner and introduced in 1962, the 'twist-'n-go' Tina was powered by a 100cc two-stroke engine and equipped with a variable ratio transmission that employed a 'V' belt and expanding pulley rather like that used by DAF. Indeed, it could be said that the Tina established the pattern for the vast majority of 'twist-'n-go' belt-drive scooters right up to the present day. Renamed T-10 in 1965, the Tina remained in production until mid-1970, never having been the success its makers hoped for despite the admirable commuting credentials of a 40mph top speed and 100mpg fuel consumption.
Purchased at an auto-jumble and presented in 'barn find' condition, this well patinated example will require a complete mechanical rebuild before further use, or alternatively would be a great display item for a vintage clothes shop, hipster café or suchlike. The fuel tank has been cleaned/ de-rusted and the carburettor ultrasonically cleaned. Our vendor advises us that the scooter runs and drives - although there is some main-bearing noise and the kick-start shaft needs re-bushing. The transmission and brakes work too. Sold strictly as viewed, the machine comes with an HPI check and V5C document, the latter incorrectly recording the engine capacity as 70cc. A short video of the machine running in January 2025 is available to view online, viewing highly recommended. These wonderful little Tina's are becoming increasingly scarce, making this is a great opportunity.
All lots are sold 'as is/ where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to bidding. Visit the Bonhams website for all pertinent auction information.
