The emblematic ALPINE A110 is no longer a household name, having left such an indelible mark on the history of the French motor car. The company was originally created by Jean Redélé, a racing enthusiast who won several victories in the Renault 4CV and was a Renault dealer in Dieppe. He founded the Société française des automobiles Alpine in 1955. His car, named Renault Spéciale Rédélé and then coach 106, was based on a Renault 4CV chassis. An Italian stylist came up with the rounded curves of the aluminium bodywork. In 1960, the Alpine A106, with a new engine, replaced the coach 106. Then the A110, nicknamed the Berlinette, was presented at the Paris Motor Show in 1962 with a new 4-cylinder engine. The Alpine brand won the Le Mans 24-hour race in 1964. Following this victory, Alpine and Renault joined forces. The Berlinette was a hit with the public, and the Alpine adventure began with a long career featuring 12 different engines and numerous upgrades. The Alpine Renault duo became world rally champions in 1973. Renault became a majority shareholder in Alpine in 1972. Jean Rédélé left the company in 1978, and this version of the A110 represents a return to Alpine's roots. It is the Alpine A110 V85 (type 1300 VC), 1289 cm3 72 bhp (Renault 12), 625 kg. A small engine reappeared in the range, a 1289 cm³ with 81 bhp DIN, on the V85 / 1300 derived from the R12 TS. It was launched in 1969 to democratise the A110 while retaining the brand's sporting spirit. Put on the road in 1975, its polyester bodywork is the iconic Alpine blue, and it is equipped with additional long-range headlights. The car has always remained in France, has had just three owners and has never been involved in an accident. This is a sound, authentic car, never fully restored, with only a standard exchange of the engine and Weber carburettor to match the 1300 VC type. It also has an 8-point bolt-on roll bar, OMP bucket seats and Oreca harness.
Note that this car is also collectable, not only has the relaunch of Alpine in 2018 brought these unique models back to the fore, but lovers of beautiful cars and drivers are eager to seek out these iconic French performance models and drive up their prices. Delivery in mainland France is possible on quotation. This Icon celebrates its 50th birthday this year, what about you?
