The presentation in 1961 of the 1500 type 115 saloon at the Frankfurt Motor Show was a resounding success. Put into production in August 1962, the first car in the "Neue Klasse" (new class) was to be produced in a number of versions. It was also the first appearance of the famous M10 engine, which was to equip a good number of emblematic BMW models of the 60s and 70s.
The range of this saloon would be topped by the M10 in a 2. 0L fuel-injected version (identical to the 2002tii) at the end of the 60's. The sportiest versions, the 2000Ti (carburettor) had round headlamps, while the 2000 and 2000 tii versions had square headlamps. These intrinsic qualities would lead it to success and BMW would capitalise on a whole series of cars sharing this base (2002 coupé, cabriolet, Ti sports version, Turbo etc.). The example presented here is a 2000 carburettor with 100hp in a rare red colour. It was restored by its previous owner and is incredibly easy to drive in today's traffic.
