Description

French registration Reconstruction Engine: six cylinders in line Displacement: 1100 cm3 Compressor: ROOTS Maximum speed: 160 km/ h Maintenance possible by specialist workshop AMILCAR was founded in Paris in July 1921 by Joseph Lamy and Emile Akar. The name "AMILCAR" was an imperfect anagram of the partners' names. Originally, AMILCAR was a small cyclecar.

The company was one of the main beneficiaries of the cyclecar boom, encouraged by a government initiative that promised a reduced rate of annual car tax, set at 100 francs a year, for motor vehicles weighing no more than 350 kg, offering no more than two seats and powered by an engine not exceeding 1100 cm3.

Numerous AMILCARs of various displacements were produced in the early 1920s before the marque entered motor racing with a batch of 1100cc twin overhead camshaft supercharged six-cylinder cars using a roller-bearing crankshaft in a full single-seater racing version. AMILCAR was persuaded to make and sell an out-of-tune two-seater production version which they called the C6. It is thought that at least 54 of these were made to comply with the Le Mans entry rules for production car racing.
