Hillman Minx Mk VII Convertible. Super rare and I suspect very few remain in such lovely original unrestored condition as this one.
Purchased new in 1954 by Mrs Hull who we are lead to believe was a newspaper reporter, she kept the car up until around 1997 when it changed hands to the last owner for some 28 years and interestingly has always remained in the Kent area.
Recorded milage of 63, 000 that we are told is correct , and judging by the excellent condition of the seats I feel sure it has to be right. Original carpets obviously showing their age but really should be left alone to maintain the balance of an original interior.
The hood has clearly been replaced in the past and is in excellent condition with a good snug fit all round.
Coachwork maintains a good deep black gloss with just a few odd bits of corrosion that in the hands of a handy man could easily be taken care of with a rattle can- but personally we would leave alone and certainly wouldn’t rush to do. The underside on close inspection is rock solid so no problems there- but would benefit from a wax coating to preserve it especially in the wheel arches where they go dry now that these cars don’t see much rain.
Lovely sweet engine that just purrs the moment you press the starter button, gears all work fine and this is a surprisingly nippy little car on the open road, certainly no slouch.
Four newish Avon tyres all round!
New brake shoes and wheel cylinders fitted!
Steering box has been removed and overhauled!
Heavy duty battery fitted!

For the person who understands and appreciates originality you will love this car but if you’re looking for perfection then I’m afraid this one is not for you.
