Description

Originally built in 1966 for export to the United States, this Triumph TR4A IRS was imported into the UK in 1990, where it underwent a full body-off restoration and professional conversion to right-hand drive. The work restored the car to a traditional British configuration while preserving its authentic character.

Finished in its striking Wedgwood Blue exterior, the car presents beautifully and retains the timeless styling that defines the TR4A. It benefits from the desirable Independent Rear Suspension setup, significantly enhancing ride quality and handling over earlier models. Since restoration, the car has been meticulously maintained, with considerable investment made to ensure reliability, drivability, and long-term enjoyment.

In its most recent ownership, the car has been cared for by renowned marque specialists TR Enterprises of Nottinghamshire. In 2020, over £8, 500 was invested in significant mechanical upgrades. These included a top-end engine rebuild with an unleaded cylinder head, a Piper Yellow mild fast road camshaft, and an 87mm bore conversion increasing displacement to 2, 138cc. A Phoenix stainless steel manifold and exhaust system was fitted to enhance both performance and engine note. Additional improvements include a 123 electronic ignition system, an electric cooling fan, and a Wosp high-torque starter motor, all aimed at increasing everyday usability and reliability.

The gearbox was rebuilt along with a new clutch and master cylinder. The differential was also rebuilt, and chassis strengthening was carried out to improve structural rigidity. Koni adjustable dampers and a full set of polybushes were installed to sharpen handling and improve ride durability.

The interior has been fully retrimmed in black with elegant white piping, complemented by a Mazda MX-5 seat conversion that offers increased comfort and support. A wooden steering wheel and inertia seatbelts further enhance the cabin, blending classic aesthetics with practical modern features.

This TR4A offers a superb blend of period styling, thoughtfully executed upgrades, and refined usability. It is supplied with a UK V5C registration, a detailed history file, and supporting documentation. A truly well-developed and properly sorted example of this iconic British sports car, ideal for touring, events, or weekend enjoyment.
