The Honda MT250, affectionately nicknamed the "Elsinore," after the Elsinore Grand Prix was a 250cc two-stroke motorcycle produced by Honda from 1973 to 1976. It was designed as a dual-sport bike, meaning it was suitable for both on and off-road riding. The MT250 was based on Honda's successful CR250M motocross bike, inheriting its powerful engine and nimble handling.
Key Features and Characteristics:
Two-stroke Engine:
The MT250's engine was a 250cc two-stroke, known for its power and responsiveness. It featured an oil-injection system, which helped to simplify maintenance and ensure consistent lubrication. The bike was equipped with a five-speed gearbox, providing a good range of gears for various riding conditions. The MT250 was designed to handle both road and off-road riding, making it a versatile choice for riders. Compared to some four-stroke dual-sport bikes of the era, the two-stroke MT250 was lighter and more agile, making it easier to handle on off-road trails. The MT250 helped to establish Honda as a major player in the off-road motorcycle market.
The "Elsinore" name was taken from the Lake Elsinore Grand Prix, a famous motocross race popularized by the film "On Any Sunday".
