Launched in the model year 1992, the 968 was the beginning of the end of the development of four-cylin-der transaxle models at Porsche.
For this successor to the 944 S2, most of the bodyshell parts were adopted from the predecessor. Yet, the front end of the 968 in particular was much more modern - and partly anticipated the front-end design of a later 911 model (the type 993).
With the 968, a six-speed manual transmission and a Tiptronic transmission were available for the first time.
What's more, the VarioCam variable intake camshaft adjustment was used for the first time in this model.
