Presented by Classicwise, this beautifully restored Austin Healey 3000 combines classic British sports car character with a host of carefully considered upgrades for reliable and enjoyable motoring.
Purchased by the last enthusiast owner in 2015, the car originally wore green paintwork. It has since undergone a comprehensive refurbishment, including a full re-upholstery, the dashboard removed and re-French polished, complete rewiring, a replacement windscreen, and extensive re-chroming of brightwork.
A lack of oil pressure led to a meticulous engine rebuild carried out by Chesman Engineering in Coventry. The block was re-bored and thoroughly cleaned, the crankshaft ground and balanced, and the *** rods balanced. The flywheel was lightened and balanced, complemented by a fast road camshaft. Triple Rudd Speed inlet manifolds were fitted along with three new SU carburettors. The engine was assembled locally by renowned XK and E-Type specialist Mike Halliday. Since the rebuild, it has covered just 7, 241 miles.
The car now rides on new 72-spoke wire wheels and tyres and benefits from electronic ignition for improved reliability. The original gearbox, which had overdrive on 3rd and 4th gears, was replaced with a 5-speed unit featuring a high 5th gear, making motorway cruising effortless. Rear springs were renewed in recent years.
The indicators were upgraded to operate through a relay, and the rear brake and indicator lights were separated for clarity and safety. The front sidelights were converted to twin filament bulbs with orange indicators in place of the standard white, providing much-improved visibility.
Finished in the iconic steel blue and white combination so admired among Healey enthusiasts, however, the car retains its original green paintwork inside the engine bay and boot area—a testament to its history.
This Austin Healey 3000 is a superbly prepared example, blending period charm with thoughtful upgrades to make it usable and enjoyable on modern roads. An ideal choice for touring, shows, or spirited drives.
