Description

History The 1970 Corvette Stingray represents the pinnacle of early C3 generation design, embodying both American muscle and European-inspired aerodynamics. With its aggressive stance, Kamm-back tail and distinctive flying buttresses, the Corvette of this era exudes a bold yet refined presence on the road. The Corvette name has always been synonymous with performance, and this Stingray is no exception. Ordered with a factory black leather interior, it offers a striking contrast to the red exterior, elevating its timeless appeal. Inside, the three-spoke steering wheel, wood accents and chrome detailing create a cabin that is both sporty and sophisticated. The original instrument panel has remained intact, with its characteristic tachometer and dual-indicator speedometer, while the rare tilt-and-telescopic steering column enhances driver comfort. Our car This particular example, finished in its original 974 Monza red, was professionally repainted in 2011 and retains a deep, lustrous sheen that highlights every sculpted line of its fibreglass bodywork. Unlike later models, the first C3s feature chrome bumpers that add a touch of classic elegance, complemented by BF Goodrich rubber-coated Chevrolet Rally wheels for the perfect period trim. Under the bonnet, the heart of this car remains the serial-numbered L46 350 V8, which originally produced 350 horsepower and was one of the last high-compression engines before emissions regulations came into force. However, this example has been tastefully upgraded with an LT1-type camshaft and intake manifold for even more exhilarating performance. The factory Muncie 4-speed manual gearbox puts full control in the hands of the driver, while a Hurst shifter hides under the original knob for an extra touch of precision. Cooling has been greatly improved with a Dewitt aluminium radiator and two electric fans, ensuring optimum temperatures even with the air conditioning on. Further refinements include Borgeson power steering, upgraded front and rear suspension, new shock absorbers and a TRW composite rear leaf spring, all of which contribute to a sharper, more planted driving experience. Braking performance is equally impressive, thanks to rebuilt four-wheel disc brakes with new calipers and rotors. The car also breathes through a newly installed Magnaflow dual exhaust system that delivers a powerful and refined V8 soundtrack. The factory Muncie 4-speed manual transmission puts full control in the hands of the driver, while a Hurst selector hides under the original knob for an extra touch of precision. Meticulously maintained and carefully upgraded, this Stingray is an exceptional example of a true American sports car. With extensive restoration work already completed - fully documented with receipts - this Corvette is ready to be enjoyed, either as a collector's highlight or as an exciting weekend driver. This 1970 Corvette is the embodiment of the Stingray heritage, an extraordinary mix of heritage, performance and timeless design.
