Description
History:
One of the most successful sports car models from Great Britain is the Austin Healey. From 1952 to 1968, the Healeys were built in nine different variants and engine versions in Abingdon: BN1 and BN2 with 4-cylinder engines left the production line 14, 614 times, a total of 13, 932 examples of the BN4 and BN6 with the first 6-cylinder engines were produced and exactly 42, 926 of the 3000 series (BN7, BT7, BJ7 & 8) were built from 1959 to 1968. The example shown here is one of the last genuine roadsters with plug-in windows and a fully concealed soft top. The ‘Big Healey’ shines with the power of a 6 cylinder engine with a capacity of 3 litres, which is why it is called the Austin Healey 3000. This Mk1 was imported to Friesland in 2013 by a German Austin Healey specialist from Arizona and partially restored there. In 2016, Goodtimer bought the beautiful specimen to make it fit for the upcoming rallies in France and Italy. The mechanically overhauled Healey was sold to its current owner in the same year.
Bodywork and paintwork:
The bodywork is completely rust-free and the paintwork is also in excellent condition after more than 10 years since the restoration. The door had to be repaired in a 4 x 5 cm area, which can be seen with a professional lamp. (Not visible in the photos as too small).
Interior:
The interior, which was renewed with genuine leather in 2106, is still immaculate and very well maintained.
The new classic Marshal music system suits the vehicle very well and has a good acoustic performance. If you prefer to listen to music from the loudspeakers rather than the engine.
Also noteworthy is the MotoLita wooden steering wheel, which has been converted with the central indicator unit.
Engine and mechanics:
Thanks to regular and professional maintenance, the Healey is in excellent mechanical condition. Since 2016, all work and inspections have been documented in the service booklet and with invoices. There are no service or repair work to be done.
Chassis:
Brakes and suspension have been completely overhauled and less than 3, 000 kilometres have been driven since then. The test bench values are impeccable and everything is ready for a fresh MOT test.
Driving experience:
Alongside the Jaguar E-Type, the Austin Healey is regarded as the most British and beautiful sports roadster ever. A great example with the right sound and impressive driving performance.
Recommendation:
This Mk1 is regarded as one of the last true sports roadsters. The very good care of this example and the more than fair price not only allow a lot of driving fun, you also get a fantastic example for the use. Added to this is a colour scheme that makes the Healey look both sporty and elegant.
