Petrol 2286cc. MOT & Tax Exempt. Deluxe Interior with Front & Rear Door Cards. Rear Bench Seats (7 Seater). Front Lifting Eyes. Front Tow Hitch. Height Adjustable Towbar with Electrics. Weber Carburettor. New Ignition System. Previously sold by us in 2019. Cross Climate Kingpin Tyres.

We are delighted to present for sale this 1981 Series 3 Land Rover, which we previously sold to one of our very best customers back in 2019. Bought as a vehicle for his son to use and enjoy around the farm and country lanes, he has now “flown the nest” and we were given the opportunity to purchase it once again. Those who follow what we do at HQ closely will know we are always keen to buy back vehicles which we have previously sold, as we have a known track record with them – and we know them to be up to the standards we expect.

Externally, the vehicle is finished in the light pastel green colour scheme, with limestone wheels and roof – we always find this to be very appealing to the eye, and we are sure those looking to make a Classic Land Rover purchase will agree. As this vehicle was to be used as a frequent driver, there are a mix of period and uprated features to make things as civilised as one can – the cross climate tyres for a better on and off road compromise, the height adjustable towbar with electrics, larger defender mirrors for better visibility whilst driving, rear grab handles, the front hitch for better visibility when wanting to manoeuvre a trailer into a tight spot, the front lifting eyes.. etc etc. The photos do the rest of the talking for us with this one – it is a very handsome machine indeed and has always been kept indoors and dry stored whenever not in use.

On the inside, there are three front standard seats, with front door cards and deluxe matting to the footwells. The rear houses a pair of bench seats, meaning seating for seven including the driver, and a door card to the rear door, along with a rear load mat, gives a premium feel. The addition of rear bench seats was spec’d by the previous keeper, as he did on occasion carry the family to the pub on a Sunday, or take his siblings out towing some quad bikes on a trailer! The added bonus of some small side windows to the roof sides means a light and airy feel when driving, as well as a much easier experience for the driver when checking blindspots etc.

Out on the road, this Series 3 drives about as well as one can realistically expect from the original period set up – with those slightly larger cross climate tyres for better road holding and additional gearing (meaning a more relaxed cruise), and a Weber carburettor for better power over standard. The added bonus of a brand new ignition system including spark plugs, coil, HT leads and distributor is a welcome bonus for both ongoing reliability and increased performance. Due to the fact this was driven by the previous keepers children, he was fastidious at ensuring it was “right” – and it stops just as it should too.

In summary then, if you are looking for a Series 3 Land Rover which can carry the whole family in (relative) luxury, then this could be for you. With the discreet and tasteful upgrades over standard to improve the driving experience, the benefit of MOT & Tax exemption alongside well-priced classic insurance, it shouldn’t cost the earth to run during ownership, whilst also proving to be an investment for the future…. in 2019, the previous keeper paid as much “retail” as we did in “trade” in 2025, such is the nature of the classic car market today.
