From "VIRGINIA USA" the restoration base was complete and of very good quality. The restoration work began in 2020. The spirit of our restoration: "nothing is beautiful enough to satisfy a competition restoration".
The bodywork was completely sandblasted and replaced, to ensure a good restoration of the rear wings, the front end and the floorboards in their entirety. The rebuilt body in white received a thorough and careful anti-corrosion treatment. After corrosion protection, the sheet metal joints and weld points were professionally coated with polyurethane sealant, as used in the modern automotive industry. The two-coat DB180 Silbergrau Metallic paint was covered with 4 coats of varnish for a lustrous polish.
The mechanical parts were sandblasted and then epoxied, with the ancillary parts (screws, springs, etc.) treated by two-coat chromating. All the silent blocks (numerous and costly) have been replaced, and the brakes rebuilt: new petrol and brake pipes, all the brake hydraulics are new, pistons and master cylinder, and hoses. The gearbox is solid and has been reconditioned. 4 new Bilstein gases complete our luxury restoration.
The total restoration of the engine led us to replace the pistons, connecting rod and bearing bushes, rectify the block and cylinder head, replace the valves and convert the engine to unleaded. The oil and water pumps are new. The WEBER carburettors were completely rebuilt by machining and replacing the shaft and butterfly bearings. The rotating machinery is new, as is the complete wiring harness. Our car is fitted with an electric fan, alternator, electric fuel pump and electronic ignition for flawless reliability. These electrical transformations are reversible. The exhaust system is new, the copper radiator has been rebuilt with a new, denser honeycomb, and the fuel tank is new. The upholstery, all in blue leather, is of the highest quality for its typical smell and feel. The fully functional dashboard has all the instruments restored. The carpets, buckled in blue, and the new soft top in original blue SONNENLAND give a noble finish to the whole.
This marvel can be seen in the south of Le Mans. We can present it on a lift and drive it for a test drive. A guarantee is available on request to provide the future owner with peace of mind.
