Description

The 1972 Beetle 1300 Cabriolet is one of the most emblematic models in Volkswagen's great motoring saga. Its story began long before its own birth, in the 1930s, when Ferdinand Porsche designed a car "for the people" for Adolf Hitler: the Volkswagen, literally the people's car. After the Second World War, production resumed under British control, and the Beetle - nicknamed for its rounded silhouette - became a global success story. The cabriolet, meanwhile, entered the scene in 1949 thanks to a collaboration with the German coachbuilder Karmann, based in Osnabrück. This partnership gave birth to a convertible version of the Beetle, which retained all the personality of the saloon but with an extra touch of pleasure: driving with your hair blowing in the wind. Unlike other convertibles, which are often more elitist, this one remained accessible, reliable and fun. The 1972 1300 version marked a turning point. It was a transitional model, combining the charm of a design that had remained virtually unchanged since its origins with significant mechanical developments. Its 1, 285cc engine developed around 44bhp, enabling the car to reach a top speed of close to 125km/ h - more than enough for relaxed driving on the open road. The engine, still at the rear, remains an air-cooled flat-four, renowned for its robustness and distinctive sound. Aesthetically, the 1972 model retains the vertical headlights, chrome bumpers with bumpers, and a minimalist-style dashboard. The car's appeal lies as much in its simplicity as in its timeless silhouette. The manual fabric soft top folds away easily, adding to the car's retro charm. The finish is modest but well thought out, with a few touches of comfort that remind us that we're already in the 70's. Today, the 1972 Beetle Convertible is a genuine collector's item, sought after not for its sporting performance, but for its authenticity and personality. It evokes a time when people took their time, when the journey was as important as the destination. It's a car that makes you smile, a car that brings generations together, a car that has survived the decades without ever losing its soul. This example is in irreproachable condition, in terms of bodywork, interior and engine. There is no corrosion and the chassis is sound. The car runs perfectly. It comes with a partial history file.
