Description
The Austin Big 7 was introduced in 1937 to fill the gap between the baby Austin 7 and the big father Austin 10. Supplied with a 4 speed manual gearbox, the 900 cc engine has a counterbalanced crankshaft, inclined valves and downdraught carburation which is ample to give a good performance. The Big 7 also came with a 'luxury' electric windscreen wiper, pressed steel wheels and a luggage carrying platform.
This 1938 Austin Big 7 was first registered in Gloucester and in more recent times spent the last 9 years in Surrey.
The engine starts and runs very well, it has good oil pressure and its very sweet. There is no frost damage and all fluids are in the correct places. It has a new stainless steel exhaust as well as a new 6V battery.
The drivetrain is in good order, all gears are direct and the clutch smooth. It handles well and is fitted with good tyres all round.
The body is very solid and it is just as clean on the underside as it is on top. The paintwork isn't immaculate but it shines very well, and its like it was close to a concours finish when first restored.
The interior is very nice and has recently been retrimmed.
