If you love all the style and history of the iconic Type 2 Camper but want a few creature comforts, this is the answer!! This is 'Bluey', a 2004 Volkswagen Type 2 Brazilian Danbury Rio Campervan. Right Hand Drive, Low 58k Miles from new and 1 owner for the last 5 years. The previous owner bought the Camper from the foremost specialists in the UK, 'VW Kampers' of Henfield, Sussex, they pick and choose and only sell the best! She is one of the last of the Aircooled 1600cc versions and cost over £20k to buy then and he since spent a further £2k on upkeep and a fancy modern DAB Stereo!
Known in Brazil as the ‘Kombi’ officially it is known as a VW T2C. The T2c has a slightly raised roof – by about 10 cm (3. 9 in) from the gutter upwards. During the 1970’s, 80’s and early 1990’s VW Brazil produced a version of the Splitscreen T2. But many of the body panels are unique to Brazilian models. In 1995, the German looking T2 Bay Window was put into production at Sao Paulo Brazil. Known as the T2c, it came with the 1. 6L air-cooled engines for the Brazilian market, and with the water-cooled 1. 8 L inline four-cylinder (90 bhp) fuel-injected engine for the Mexican market. This is a real hybrid vehicle using parts from various years and models! The steering and suspension is fundamentally the same as pre 1967 German Splitscreen, sporting king and link pin from suspension and a gearbox reminiscent of the 1302 and 1303 Beetle gearbox. Many of the body panels are the same as the German produced mid 1970’s T2. If you ever visit Brazil you will see the Kombis in daily use as delivery vehicles, taxis, police cars, lots of yellow-painted ones at the airports and a few of the long since produced pickups with hand-painted wooden sides.
Our car was manufactured in Brazil and imported and registered in the UK in 2004. Danbury converted the Kombi and the PDI was carried out in July 2007, (They were very expensive new and it took a while to convert them to order) with a further 12 stamps in the service book. It has a nice low mileage of 58k Miles from new today and is in a nice condition throughout, a genuinely stunning little camper. The two tone paintwork is in a beautiful condition and it’s a real head turner, In the cabin is a Webasto heater, The Black Leather seats are trimmed nicely and are very comfortable and she was specified with the lowered suspension and cool Californian Alloys!
This is a Danbury Rio Configuration, four berth, camper and it is planned superbly for a great camping experience, The interior is nicely trimmed, very light and excellent quality The Danbury pop-top gives great head space once raised and it has removable bed board for sleeping up top. A full side run of cabinets on the passenger side with great cupboard space all round, Double gas hob and a separate sink unit, Gas locker, Fridge, Excellent lighting throughout, Removable table, Retro Window curtains all round, The Rock n roll bed easily converts in to a bed and has storage underneath. She Seats 4 with Belts – sleeps 4 (with upper bed board), Tow bar with electric, for a bike rack. She has the Danbury poptop with grey canvas, Front mounted spare wheel carrier with chrome & colour coded cover. 2 comfortable front seats with rake adjustment, reclining backrests and head restraints, 3-point seatbelts, New DAB/ Bluetooth Stereo & Speakers, Additional heater, 12v sockets, and loads of camping equipment as well!
In the rear we have the Rio layout with extra wardrobe space, Removable pedestal table stowed behind nearside seat, Electric cold water tap – stainless steel sink with pumped water and drain to underside of camper, Gas powered twin hob, 12v fridge, Double 13 amp socket (for use when on hook-up), Leisure battery, This level of specification when new from Danbury would have been around £50k we think. There are hundreds of little extras that will come with our van, Bluey, so she really is ready for the summer! She comes with a new MOT with No Advisories at all and also a fun Private plate!! We were planning lots of Festivals this year in her but unfortunately we have made the decision that she must go! We could not find a cheaper Brazilian Camper out there and this is actually one of the nicest also!
