Following the resounding success of the Giulietta Spider, Alfa Romeo decided to increase the performance of its flagship convertible, increasing its displacement from 1, 300 cc to 1, 600 cc, to keep pace with its competitors.
Presented at the Monza racetrack in June 1962, the Alfa Romeo Spider, a symbol of the "dolce vita," was renamed the Giulia 1600 Spider. The car retained Pininfarina's timeless design, with only a few small differences, such as the (fake) hood scoop.
The Giulia Spider retained the qualities that had made it so successful: two seats, fast, captivating, balanced, rational, and with neutral handling. All this, however, was enhanced by technical solutions designed to significantly improve driveability and performance, thanks to its 92 hp, a fabulous five-speed synchronized transmission worthy of a true Alfa, and oversized drum brakes (disc brakes on the front wheels are also available as an option).
With these developments, the Giulia Spider became the complete embodiment of the beautiful Italian spider, with elegant Pininfarina styling, but with mechanicals capable of delivering brilliant performance.
The Giulia Spider, like the previous Giulietta, was also available in the 112 hp "Veloce" version, powered by two Solex carburetors, instead of the single Solex featured on the standard version.
Production ceased in 1965 after just three years, with just over ten thousand units built (9, 250 of the "normal" Spider, 1, 091 of the Veloce).
To this day, the Giulia Spider remains one of the most popular choices among classic car collectors, as it embodies the classic style of the 1960s Italian convertible, combined with brilliant, high-performance mechanics.
This charming spider, despite being well over half a century old, can be driven like a modern car: just turn the key and let the sound of its "millesei" sound lulled you, aided by its excellent, precise, and fast gearbox.
This iconic car is now ready to participate in historic events and rallies.
The car is visible in our showroom in Reggio Emilia/ Firenze, Italy.
