Sadly, we’re offering our 1972 MG Midget for sale as a project car—something we never expected to do so soon. It’s a charming little classic with plenty of potential, but it now needs an enthusiast with welding skills to bring it back to the road.
We purchased the car at the Manor Park Classics October Auction 2025 for £6, 440, and their original listing (with photos and a driving video) is still available to view here Lot 202 - 1972 MG Midget 1275. Between 2014–2017 the car received £7, 743 of investment, and it comes with a substantial history file.
We started to refresh the interior with new carpets. Once the seats and trim were removed, we discovered that both floor pans needed replacing, along with the driver’s side inner and outer sills. We ordered new floor pans and both inner and outer sills for both sides, and then—wrongly, in hindsight—sent the car to a local welder for repair. After spending £1, 500, the driver’s side sill and floor pan were replaced, and the passenger floor pan was removed, but the work was not completed and to a standard that we were expecting. At this point we’ve had to accept that it’s no longer a viable project for us personally, and that someone with the right skills and enthusiasm would be better suited to finishing it properly. There is still great potential in this car to be realised.
The car does start and drive well, and a great deal has been spent on it over the years—just not always in the areas it needed most recently.
It’s being sold strictly as a project. Included are the new passenger floor pan, inner and outer sills, a full set of new carpets, and new black interior trim panels. The interior is currently removed, the exhaust is off the car, and the passenger floor pan has been cut out.
All in, the car now owes us around close on £9k since late October.
