Description

This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, The Iconic Sale at Race Retro 2026 - Competition Cars on Saturday the 21st of February, Stoneleigh Park, Stoneleigh Rd, Coventry, CV8 2LG. This striking Porsche 911 RSR replication comes with an illustrious backstory having been a Tour de Espana winner and twice winner of the Tour of Britain. Based on a 2. 7-litre Carrera MFI, it was converted to 3. 0-litre Carrera specification in the late seventies winning various tarmac staged rallies in Germany. In 1996, the renowned Swiss tuner, HS Racing, upgraded it to an FIA -compatible RSR IROC specification with a nod to the International Race of Champions where top flight drivers competed in identical Carrera RSRs. These original RSRs have become one of the most sought-after Porsches 911s worldwide.
It was originally imported in to the UK in 2003 by Porsche Le Mans driver, Nick Faure, who had raced RSRs in period for Porsche GB. With Nick at the helm, it won the 2003 Tour de Espana and the Circuit des Remparts Porsche 911-only race in Angouleme. It was then sold to Sean Lockyear who won the 2008/ 2010 Tour Britannia and it also ran at the 6HRS of Spa-Francorchamps. After an entry into the 2012 Tour of Britain the new owner commissioned Mike Bainbridge Engineering to rebuild the engine and gearbox and Sean Goodyear set the car up for track/ tarmac use. From 2015 to 2020 the RSR formed part of a bespoke Porsche collection before being sold.
The 3. 0-litre twin-spark MFI engine produced c. 300bhp and was originally built by Heini Schneebit of HS Racing using high-butterfly injection and twin coils and was rebuilt in 2012 by Neil Bainbridge who also rebuilt the Guards gearbox including a new limited-slip differential, gear cluster and crown wheel and pinion.
In October 2021, the oil coolers, fuel lines, brake fluid, drive belt and ignition leads were replaced and new Michelin tyres were fitted to the Fuchs-style wheels, (270/ 45/ 15 fronts 335/ 55/ 15 rear). The most recent service was in July 2022 at an indicated 6, 841 miles, where technicians at Jasmine PorschaLink UK replaced the engine oil, filters, spark plugs and fuel injector as part of a major service. New OMP competition seats, new Sparco 6-point harnesses, a new electronic Lifeline plumbed-in extinguisher system, and a new hand-held fire extinguisher and firestick were fitted in 2024, consequently all the FIA Safety Equipment is in date.
Accompanying the vehicle will be the car’s Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, various German title documents, import documentation, its previous FIA Historic Technical Passport (issued in 2006), and a collection of maintenance invoices and MOT test certificates.
This seriously historied Porsche 911 RSR Replica is understood to be eligible for several prestigious racing or rallying events and represents incredible value against its RSR IROC brethren.
