Comes from Borgo Panigale and paves the way to what, in the future, would become the most loved motorcycles of all time… the fast GranTurismo. We’re talking about the Ducati ST4 Sport Touring. Arrived in 1998 it replaced the Ducati ST2, already highly appreciated by the public, so much so that Ducati was convinced to believe in this project and give life to a new model. This time though nothing was left to chance and at Ducati they “put on the table” the best they had in-house… the frame, forks and engine were derived from the immense Ducati 916 that we all know well. These characteristics ensure the bike is very stable, honest and fast… its 105 HP at 9000 rpm launch this “touring” to as fast as 245 km/ h. The front Showa fork, 43mm upside‑down stanchions and fully adjustable, is identical to the one fitted on the 916. This makes the “front” direct and precise. The rear tyre, on the other hand, is kept on the ground by an adjustable Sachs shock absorber in rebound, compression and spring preload. The braking system cannot fail to confirm the excellent equipment of this bike. At the front we find two 320 mm semi‑floating discs bitten by Brembo gold series four‑piston calipers while, at the rear, the disc is 245 mm with two‑piston calipers. The dizzying numbers of this bike hint at pure performance but she was born to clock up miles and not to set lap records… so it came equipped with a set of beautiful hard‑case panniers matched to the bodywork, a comfortable rider and passenger seat and two semi‑bars that make the riding position comfortable enough to sit for hours but also for quick direction changes when the driving becomes sportier. I am truly convinced that this Ducati has been one of the best fast tourers ever and, even today, does not look out of place against its modern rivals.
The Ducati ST4 offered by **** Garage is an example from 2002 in Anniversary Red that has covered only 34355 kilometres. The overall condition of this two‑wheeled machine is excellent; regular maintenance and the loving care of its previous owner have ensured it could reach its 20 years of life in splendid shape. This Borgo Panigale masterpiece has just finished being run‑in… now it only needs a full tank and a rider to take it beyond our borders!
