Alfa Romeo Touring Spider: the name alone conjures up "La Dolce Vita", the good life along the Riviera and refined style in general. It wasn’t exactly economical when launched in 1958. It cost 50% more than a Mercedes 220 SE and six times more than a VW Tipo I. A hand-built luxury by Carrozzeria Touring of Milan, who also designed the car, but it carried a high price. The Spider was produced as a two-seater until 1961, followed by a 2+2 version. The engine was an evolution of the famous 1900 double-overhead-cam engine, which later became the cornerstone of the “Nord” engine. Equipped with twin carburettors and a higher compression ratio, the engine develops 113 hp. Mated to a smooth five-speed gearbox, it was truly striking for the early 1960s, and the stylish design paired with the era’s most advanced technology.
