A homage to the Hebridean heritage 1 of 30 DEFENDER WORKS V8 ISLAY
The Defender Works V8 Islay Edition was inspired by Land Rover Series IIa from 1965. It was driven by Spencer Wilks, one of Land Rover’s founders, on the Hebridean island of Islay — the birthplace of the Land Rover name. This very special, original LAND ROVER is part of the LAND ROVER CLASSIC UK Collection.
NUANCES OF THE ORIGINAL
Islay Edition bears the mid-grey exterior of the 1965 original. The main bodywork is finished in Heritage Grey with a contrasting roof and rugged steel wheels in Limestone. Completing the legendary grille and the traditional Land Rover badge is a personalised graphic on the side reading “GXC 639C”. That is the Series IIa registration of Spencer Wilks.
EVERY SEAM HAS A STORY
As an elegant homage to the eponymous place, the Islay Edition’s seats, door trims, the central armrest and the sun visor feature tactile tweed, made by the Islay Woollen Mill. The natural colour palette is a harmonious blend of blue for the sea and sky, purple for the heather there, and a subtle yellow for the peat moorland.
THESE WORDS CHANGED THE WORLD
Throughout the Islay Edition’s interior you’ll find nods to the legendary Land Rover. This includes a plaque beside the gear lever telling the story of how Land Rover got its name.
HISTORICAL DISTILLED DETAILS
The removable console shelf with leather tabs emphasises the link to the Islay Edition’s hybrid heritage and contains oak from Whisky casks from the local Kilchoman Distillery. Spencer Wilks’s granddaughter, Kathy Wills, founded the distillery in 2005 with her husband Anthony. Each compartment contains a wooden disc, a replica of the whisky cask floor, listing the limited run of 30 models and celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Land Rover brand. The carefully worked interior is completed with oak decor elements extending to the rear load area floor and the clock in the centre console.
