"If ever there was a motorbike that needed a racetrack to give of its best then you'd think this would be the one. The Gamma damn near is a racer after all – from its garish, sponsor-stickered flanks to its crackling, faired and expansion-chambered exhausts." - Bike magazine, June 1988.

With its class-leading power-to-weight ratio, race-type fairing, 'Full Floater' rear suspension, anti-dive forks and aluminium frame - the latter a first for a production motorcycle - Suzuki's RG250 Gamma was one of the most advanced street motorcycles money could buy when it was introduced in 1983. The Gamma's 250cc water-cooled twin-cylinder engine produced 45bhp, which was good enough for a top speed of around 107mph. But, unlike many of its two-stroke rivals, the Gamma had a (relatively) healthy midrange and no discernible power step, courtesy of its ATAC exhaust valve, making it a significantly more relaxed ride. Tipping the scales at a mere 130kg (286lb), it was one of the lightest and most advanced 250cc bikes of its era.

This RG250 Gamma displays a total of 13, 666 kilometres on the odometer and is offered in need of recommissioning (the engine turns over). The machine has a speedometer with a maximum marking of 180km/ h (111mph), suggesting that it may be a model with restricted power output. Accordingly, prospective purchasers should satisfy themselves with regard to this motorcycle's specification prior to bidding.

Offered unregistered and without documents. Following a period of inactivity, this motorcycle will require recommissioning and/ or restoration to a greater or lesser extent before returning to the road and thus is sold strictly as viewed. Prospective purchasers should satisfy themselves with regard to this motorcycle's completeness, history, authenticity, originality and mechanical condition prior to bidding.
Offered with key

All lots are sold ‘as is/ where is’ and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to bidding. Visit the Bonhams Motorcycles website for all pertinent auction information.
